Credit union history began in the U.S. when the first credit union was formed in Manchester, New Hampshire, in 1909. Today, more than 10,000 credit unions exist with over $480 billion in assets and they serve more than 79 million members. Credit union membership continues to grow every year and members are always pleased with the service. According to the American Banker Newspaper's Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey credit unions have rated No. 1 in customer satisfaction at financial institutions for 10 years.
